Fair housing is a complex area of the law, but critically important to owners and managers of residential rental property. A lack of knowledge or compliance can have a devastating impact on a property and everyone associated with the ownership and management. Therefore, we make it a goal to educate our clients in order for them to understand fair housing laws and their obligations, and to teach our clients to properly implement these policies at their properties.
To this end, we can assist our clients in reviewing and developing their applicant screening process and criteria in an effort to obtain compliance with all applicable fair housing laws. In addition, we are able to conduct in-house staff training on the important aspects of fair housing and how it impacts everyone employed at the property.
Our ultimate objective is to have our clients understand the importance of fair housing laws in the rental business, not only because it is the right thing to do but also because it is the “law of the land.” There are federal, state, and local fair housing laws, and understanding them all is very important in the context of operating residential rental properties.
